Countdown to Cambodia

In 12 days we will be en route to Cambodia!

A few tidbits about our trip...

It will take us 36 hours to arrive there. Leaving Thursday morning and arriving late Friday night.

Coming home will take us -1.5 hours (ha..I wish). Leaving Monday at 11:50 pm and arriving Monday at 10:00pm.

We are traveling with approximately 150 hygiene kits compiled by our generous ward members/neighborhood for a day of service done back in May. We will be donating them to an orphanage, school and church.

The Cambodian language is actually called Khmer, not Cambodian. Luckily Don is fluent. I know how to say thank you. This should get me far.

We will fly into Siem Riep (at the top of the country) and make our way down to the capital city, Phnom Penh where we will depart from.

We have been vaccinated for everything we can be vaccinated for...so monkeys, stay away!!

We are so excited for this opportunity and adventure! Let the packing (and Malaria medicine) begin! Well, in twelve days.

Fourth of July

The fourth of July just so happens to be my favorite holiday. What's not to love about fireworks, sporting red, white and blue outfits and bbqs?

This year we went to my Uncle Steve and Aunt Maria's house for a big family breakfast. They are good sports and host all of us (about 60-ish people) and feed us an amazing pancake-bacon-waffle-egg-and-sausage breakfast. Plus since there are so many of us, it's one of the rare times the majority of our family are together.

That night we headed south to go to the Stadium of Fire. The Beach Boys and Scotty McCreerey were performing. While I love the Beach Boys (thanks to my parents, I know every single song), my expectations for their performance were not high...after all, this was their fifty year anniversary tour. They did an amazing job. I wonder how many days/weeks it will take them to recover from putting on such a great show....

And of course, the fireworks did not disappoint.

High-five for America, everyone!
