One Line a Day...

Much to my dismay, I am not very good about writing in a journal. I have started about fifty and never complete them. This makes me feel somewhat guilty...but the days just seem to fly by and pretty soon it has been months since I have written (or years...). Over the weekend we were in [my new favorite store] Paper Source  and saw a notebook that said "One Line a Day." I thought, I could do that! The journal itself wasn't the cutest, so because I am embracing my "crafty-side" (that I sometimes wonder if exists beyond the classroom) this summer, I decided to make one.

So, we are going to attempt this summer to write "One Line a Day" to document our time here in DC and our first year of marriage!

Alexandria

Never have I ever had such an eventful flight as the one to DC! The adventure was complete with a woman tripping as she got off the plane and breaking her foot (and then having to be wheeled out on a stretcher with an IV) and two somewhat intoxicated men being yelled at by the flight attendant as we were trying to land! I was definitely kept entertained. It is good to be back with Don! People laughed at me for saying this, but two weeks is way too long to be apart.

Our cute condo. We live on the third floor.

We were lucky enough to be able to rent a condo in Alexandria, Virginia for the first part of the summer through some mutual friends. It is nice and spacious (aka Don's sister and my sisters will not be sleeping on the kitchen floor and or bathtub when they come to visit...they get bedrooms and beds!) Best of all, it has a washer and dryer and dish washer. Oh, my favorite appliances.

Friday night I met Don in Georgetown after he got off work and we went to one of my favorite restaurants, Taj of India. (Mmmmmm!) We then walked around Georgetown and visited
some of the shops including H&M, Zara and Dean & Deluca. Ah, delightful. Don was a good sport and put up with all of the window shopping.

(Sorry, kind of blurry...)

Saturday morning we slept in and then went to Old Town Alexandria where an Armenian festival was going on. (Kind of random, we know). We walked around Old Town and stopped at the festival where they had food and entertainment. It was hot enough that you couldn't stand in one place too long, otherwise the humidity would suck you in! Luckily there are alot of air conditioned stores along King Street. We ended our Old Town trip with a visit to to Trader Joe's...why do we not have these in Utah?

We are loving being out here and can't wait for our visitors to come in a few weeks!

the happiest place on earth

don and i are lucky enough to spend the summer in washington, dc--the happiest place on earth. don and i have both separately spent alot of time in dc (this will be my third summer there and don's second internship-ish), but we have never been there together! don is doing an internship with the rnc (republican national committee) where he will work with goptv. he started his internship last tuesday and so far is loving it. i will join him on thursday once school gets out for me. (thank you salt lake school district for choosing to remain in school substantially longer than any other school district in the state).

we will be spending the first half of our time there in alexandria, va and the second half of our summer will be spent in southern maryland with our good friends, the isaacsons. we are excited to have don's sister, lauren, come and visit us and my sisters, emily and allison, come too!
